Pyjama Day at the Early Learning Centre
Scarlett’s request “Can we do a pyjama day at the ELC?” To which my response was “Why?” She quickly came back with “To raise money for sick kids”.
That initial question was the catalyst to a major campaign driven by Scarlett. From the written request; that I asked her for, to the list of tasks, the letter to parents that she typed on my laptop, the making of the donation boxes and the “sell” of the idea to her peers, Scarlett focussed for 3-4 weeks on her project. There were many decisions to be made – when, where and how.
Thursday 7 September was a great day to wear pyjamas – it was cold outside but very cosy and warm inside in pyjamas. Staff and children participated fully. Scarlett raised $210.00. On Wednesday 27 September, Scarlett, her Parents and Grandparents met at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation to present the cash.
Well done Scarlett, what a display of empathy and kindness to others demonstrating the Blackfriars Pillars of Community and Service.
Roll up, roll up to the Puppet Show of the Century!
After our excursion to the theatre to see the performance “Beep,” Hazel and Olivia became producer, director and puppeteers of their own show. They intricately dictated the lines of their show to Mrs McPhillips, demonstrating fantastic recall from the actual show. They made the characters, props and scenery for the show with attention to detail. Invitations were designed and delivered to their parents to join us for the performance on Wednesday 27 September. The performance took place at 9.00am in the Purple Room to the delight of the audience.
Great job girls, showing us your creative genius.
