Frank Facey Award
Each year, local Real Estate agency Facey Industrial awards the Frank Facey Award to a Year 12 student in a business related study. This student must demonstrate the attributes of hard work, perseverance and courage in their learning. As part of the award Facey Industrial donates a brand new MacBook Air (valued at over $1,500). The award is not necessarily given to the highest performing student, but the one who most strongly displays these qualities. The award is designed to reward outstanding effort throughout the year, and prepare them for the next stage in their education at university.
This year, the recipient of this award was Rivaldo Lay (AQ1). Rivaldo has demonstrated these qualities in abundance all year in his studies of Business Management and Accounting. He has been extremely dedicated in his learning, voluntarily completing additional work outside of school hours and seeking feedback on his performance to continually improve. He takes on this feedback provided by teachers and selflessly assists others in their learning.
This award should act as an incentive for students in the younger year levels to work hard throughout their studies in the subjects of Accounting, Business Management, Economics and Legal Studies. There are no secrets to success. It is simply the result of preparation, hard work, perseverance and learning from failure.
Congratulations to Rivaldo, the 2017 recipient of the annual Frank Facey award.

Year 8 Medieval Day
On Wednesday 18 November Year 8 students participated in a History incursion, that incorporated what we have been learning for the last term, which was the Middle Ages.
Students participated in workshops learning about medieval society and were given the opportunity to perform activities from the Middle Ages. These included Archery, medieval crime and punishments, dancing and games. These activities were very exhilarating and engaging. It felt like we were in medieval times as the instructors dressed, talked and acted like people from that time in history.
Our Medieval day ended with us learning about tournaments that knights would conduct. Using different weapons, we also had to try and defeat a knight who was in full armour, protection and weapons. Although many students were able to attack the knight, all of them were defeated in the end.
All in all our Medieval day was a thrilling and unique experience, were we where able to get a taste of the Middle Ages.

On medieval day we learned a variety of new things and undertook quite a few interesting activities including archery and fighting an armoured and shielded knight.
During archery I learnt how to shoot a bow and different types of arrows that were used during their time. We also had a punishment class where they told us what they did to law breakers. Back in their day they didn't have any police as the civilians and peasants were their own authority and held the prisoners in a cell until the knights came.

Italian Experience
On the Thursday 12 and Friday 20 October, the Year 8 Italian students had their annual Immigration excursion. We visited the Museo Italiano. Everyone enjoyed the museum and loved looking at the different maps and videos.
Another part of the excursion was the street walk through Lygon and Faraday Streets. We saw many different Italian stores and learnt about their history while answering questions in the booklet we were given.
Next, we had lunch at Criniti’s, an Italian restaurant. There we had some amazing authentic Italian pizza, which we all enjoyed. Lastly, we ended the day with a trip to Brunetti’s, an Italian café. There we could buy sweets and pastries to bring home to our families. We also bought some delicious Italian gelato. Overall, this was a great learning experience!
