Principal's Report

Remembrance Day

On Saturday 11 November communities around Australia will  stop to observe one minute's silence at 11 am. This is in remembrance of those who have died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. The  service will begin with the recitation of The Ode and the playing of the Last Post, which is followed by one minute silence. After the silence, the Rouse is sounded: this signifies ‘an awakening in a better world for the dead’. We pray for those who have died and those who  continue to serve in the armed forces and peacekeeping forces, and we especially pray on this important day in our community for peace.

Our Prayer

God of the living and the dead,

You gave your only Son for the life of the world ...

Take to your heart the men and women who died to give us life.

May we treasure the freedom that we have today

because of their bravery and their loving sacrifice.

We ask this prayer in the name of Jesus,

who died that we might live.

                         Amen.

Fr Guelen Funeral

The Parish of St Mary’s gathered last Wednesday to celebrate the remarkable life of Fr Anthony Guelen. Fr Guelen had been a driving force behind the growth of St John’s Regional College and our Administration Centre is named after him in recognition of the foundational work he contributed to this community.

Over  50 priests of the archdiocese attended the funeral including Bishop Hilton Deakin and Bishop Terry Curtin  and our own Year 9 students formed a fitting guard of honour along with the students of St Mary’s Primary School.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,

and let perpetual light shine upon him.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,

 through the mercy of God,

rest in peace.

Amen.

Farewell

Fr Albert Yogarajah will be moving to Werribee at the end of this year and we thank him for his support of St John’s and wish him well in his new Parish.

Fr Albert will be replaced by Fr Desmond Moloney  who is currently the Vice Rector of the Seminary and will take over St Kevin's parish in Hampton Park in the new year. Welcome Fr Des.
