STUDENT VOICE AND LEADERSHIP

Get to know our College Leadership Team

KAITLYN L. 9I - SPORTS CAPTAIN

When did you start your studies at Doncaster Secondary College?

I started my studies at DSC at the start of year 7, 2016.

Tell us a bit about your family.

I have a mum (Samantha), dad (Andrew) and little sister (Jazmine). They have supported me in all of my decisions and had given me great advice when I needed it. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.

Tell us about some of your interests.

My favourite sport is basketball (which I play outside of school), and I also do martial arts.

What have you been involved in throughout your school years?

  • Interact, Treasurer
  • Peer Leader
  • Volunteer helper for student focus
  • Attended Camp Bogong Leadership Camp

What gave you the confidence to apply for these roles?

During the end of year 8, I started to apply for everything that sounded interesting; I just kept telling myself that if I didn’t apply, I would have never known what the outcome would have been whereas if I did, I would either get the position or learn how to be better. That drive and goal were significant to me, so I applied for everything that came up, and my parents supported that.

What advice would you give to those students who aspire to be future leaders?

Don’t be afraid to try new things, have confidence in yourself, learn or be comfortable in your skin, and if you don’t reach your goal keep trying and trying, don’t let anything bring you down. If you don’t try it, you will never know what the outcome would’ve been whereas if you at least tried your best, you’ve learnt from feedback and next time you can have a chance to show your full potential. We only have six years of high school, use them well.

I CAN AND I WILL

What does this mean to you?

To have determination, passion, commitment, drive and confidence. All of these are important for school and life.

How will you live by this statement throughout the year?

Set a good example for middle school. And do my best at everything. ‘I can, and I will’ do my very best.

What are your goals for 2018:

For yourself personally and as a Year 12 student?

As sports captain, I aim to encourage all students to go outside their comfort zone, unlock their potential by expressing themselves in sport and work with students in uniting them as a team.

My goal as a year nine student would be having good work ethics and maintaining an A grade average. All these factors are to help me do a VCE subject next year.

Personally, it has always been being a better me. Always strive to do my best by helping others, leading, having new hobbies or trying new things.

What are your long-term life ambitions and aspirations?

If I can keep up my grades, work ethic and attitude I know I will set many paths/options that I could choose from in the future.

What would you like your legacy to be for Doncaster Secondary College?

To be remembered. I would like to leave a path for the future leaders of Doncaster Secondary College. A path that they would follow and at the end they will make a newer and better one for those after them.

In one sentence what would you like to say to your fellow students about your Pride in Doncaster Secondary College?

I am grateful and proud to be part of the Doncaster Secondary College community. This school gives so many opportunities and chances for all students regardless of who they are.
