Major works start on Plenty Road Upgrade Stage 2

Stage 2 of the Plenty Road Upgrade will provide a safer and more efficient route for Melbourne’s rapidly growing northern suburbs.

This stage will improve a 7km stretch of road between Bush Boulevard and Bridge Inn Road for 35,000 people who use this road every day.

For Stage 2, we will:

add an extra lane in each direction between Bush Boulevard and Bridge Inn Road
upgrade 12 major intersections, including Bridge Inn Road, Waterview Drive and Francesca Drive
install 9 new slip lanes, with 7 of those enabling drivers to merge onto Plenty Road more smoothly
enhance turning access into Bellevue Boulevard by installing a signalised right-hand turn for northbound drivers
improve cycling and walking facilities.

The Plenty Road Upgrade Stage 2 is expected to be complete in mid-2021.

Traffic changes in place for this work include:

closure of the U-turn bay on Plenty Road southbound before Bush Boulevard
closure of the northbound Plenty Road right turn into Bellevue Boulevard, detour via U-turn at Stagecoach Boulevard
closure of the Old Plenty Road intersection, during this time:
the Plenty Road Southbound right turn into Old Plenty Road will be closed, detour via U-turn facility south of Bethany Court
the Southbound Old Plenty Road right turn onto Plenty Road will be closed, detour via U-turn at Stagecoach Boulevard.

Riverdale Boulevard to Bridge Inn Road

Major works from north of Riverdale Boulevard to Bridge Inn Road are due to begin in late 2019. We’ll provide you with details about this prior to work starting.

Cyclists and pedestrians

On road bike lanes will be closed for the duration of the project. Cyclists will be detoured onto the current shared walking and cycling paths.
