YEAR 7 BOYS CRICKET GALA DAY

On Tuesday 12 March the Year 7 Boys Cricket team competed in the Kingston Division Gala Day at Caulfield Park. In the first match was against Bentleigh, McKinnon batted first and posted a respectable 55 off our 8 overs thanks to a nice partnership between Sahil Shaik and Krishna Sridhar. The boys then kept Bentleigh to a score of 45 thanks to some excellent catching in the drizzly conditions and tidy bowling, with Senin Seymour's 3 wickets for 1 run off 2 crafty overs the highlight. A 40 run opening stand by the former English opening batting pair of Kane Vaughan and Farhan Hussain then helped account for Sandringham in the second pool match 53-19, which booked the team a spot in the Final against Mordialloc.

McKinnon again batted first in the Final and this time it was Alex Varelas who put on a batting masterclass dispatching the Mordialloc bowlers all over the ground. Alex ended up batting through the innings to compile an unbeaten 30-odd and set up a very defendable score of 67, with Sahil and Krishna again chipping in with some valuable runs. The seamers then did as they had done all day, bowling with impeccable pace and accuracy eventually restricting Mordialloc to a total of 9 for 27 to seal a comfortable win.

The boys will now progress to the Southern Metro Region Finals which will be held during Term 4.

Special thanks to Ryan Omeara who helped score, coach and umpire on the day, and Liam for bringing the bus to come and pick us up.

INTERMEDIATE GIRLS TENNIS

It was a glorious day for tennis when the Intermediate Girls Tennis team set off for the Bentleigh Rec tennis club to compete in the Kingston Division Championships.

Firstly, we played Brighton. It was a close match being 3 sets all but we won 119 points to 91. Then we played Mordialloc and we again had a win 4-2. This meant we had won our Pool A so progressed to the semi-final to play Parkdale. We again drew on 3 sets all but again won on points 81-70.

We had one more game to play ... the Grand Final against Bentleigh. We fought hard and Emily Danckert even needed to call for first aid so Mrs Hooper carefully placed a bandaid on Emily's blistered finger. It was all worth it and overall we were victorious. We were presented with the pennant and were very proud.

Go Team, Go McKinnon!!

We now progress to the SMR Finals on Friday 3 May at Dendy Park ....fingers XX

Congratulations to Georgia Foran, Laura Wharton, Emily Danckert (undefeated in her singles all day), Anousha Ramu and Lia Chasen
