Assistant Principal Upate

It has been a wonderful start to 2018! As Director of Senior School (and Acting Assistant Principal for Term 1), I have been actively involved with a wide variety of Mordialloc College life.

The Senior students have demonstrated motivation and commitment from day 1; indeed, the study centre is always a hive of activity with students working hard during their study periods. The level of focus so far this year has been impressive and we have high expectations of the class of 2018.

We started the year with a presentation from Nikki Wynd. Nikki ‘only started running about 6 years ago and found herself not only loving the sport, but very talented at it too. After working extremely hard to smash all of her goals over the last few years, ultra runners everywhere, particularly in Australia have watched her climb her way to success. However, it was her winning performance at the 2015 Badwater Ultra Marathon in the USA (aptly named the world’s toughest foot race at 217km), a non-stop run from Death Valley to Mt. Whitney, CA) where she embodied true resilience that saw runners everywhere take note, where Nikki would go down in the history books as one of Australia, and the world’s best ultra runners.’ Nikki’s message to our year 12s was to dream big, visualise their goals and make a plan to achieve them. She has asked to come back into school mid-year to find out how they are all going in their studies.

Our Student Leaders have taken part in a Leadership incursion run by an external presenter. They learnt about the different styles of leadership and the importance of collaborating with people with different ideas and skills. Most of the middle school leaders were involved in the incursion and it was great to see students from both sub-schools working closely and getting to know each other. Next week, there will be a follow up session when the students will create their Action Plans for the year, in line with our whole school goals.

We have greater student representation at SRC this year, which is an indication of the motivation demonstrated by Mordialloc College students to make positive change and improvement for themselves and their peers.

I am looking forward to the year ahead, and fully believe this will be a year when the students at Mordialloc College truly excel in every way.
