NAIDOC Day
Cowra High Celebrates
Cowra High School celebrated NAIDOC in tremendous fashion on Tuesday.
Renowned Indigenous performer Sean Choolburra highlighted the day with a hilarious and insightful routine that shared observations of his childhood growing up in Townsville and attending a Christian school and his take on relationships. A regular performer at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and former Bangara Dance Company member, Sean showcased his storytelling, dancing and didgeridoo playing skills in a one hour, highly energetic show that received rave reviews from everyone that attended.
The school was also privileged to have Aunty Di McNaboe and Aunty Iris Reid from Dubbo to talk about why “Our Language Matters”. These esteemed ladies deliver Wiradjuri language to TAFE and school students and are integral to language reclamation across the Nation.
Following a BBQ lunch that featured kangaroo and emu sausages, students participated in a variety of cultural activities in the afternoon including spear throwing, traditional games, dancing and artwork.
Our heartfelt thanks to the Cowra Elders and invited special guests in attendance and to all staff and students who assisted on the day to make it such a success.
