Chesterfield Farm Excursion
On Tuesday 31 May and Thursday 2 June, the Year 1 & 2 students took a beautiful stroll down the hill to the historical Chesterfield Farm for a real “hands-on” experience of farm life. The weather was perfect and the kids had a fantastic time experiencing many different activities including milking Tina the cow, handling the baby animals, learning about their lifecycles, watching a sheep dog show, feeding the deer, goats, emus, camels and horses, and finally a tractor ride tour of the farm. Thank you to the parents for their understanding and patience as both excursions where rescheduled.
Here are some comments from our Year 2 students:
“They’re so cute but I thought pigs were only pink!” -Teoni
“My favourite part of the excursion was when I got to feed Phillip the baby goat with a bottle.” –Matthew G
“The funniest part of my day was when Cameron’s cup got stolen by the camel when he was feeding him.” -Cooper
“I loved holding the baby bunnies, they were super cute and cuddly.” -Zeik

BOOK FAIR 2016
The Scholastic Book Fair has been a very successful event over the years. As a result we will conduct a Book Fair from Thursday 4 August until Wednesday 10 August 2016. This is a terrific opportunity for families to purchase quality books at discounted prices. There will be a wide range of books, posters and other items available for purchase. The school also receives a substantial number of free books as a result of your purchases. An information notice will be sent home early next term with full details of the Book Fair. We will also be asking for parent volunteers to assist with the collection of money and orders. We look forward to seeing you at the Jells Park Primary School Book Fair 2016!

KidsMatter
Jells Park PS has taken the first few steps to becoming a KidsMatter school. KidsMatter Primary is a mental health and wellbeing framework for primary schools. It provides the methods, tools and support to help schools work with parents and carers, health services and the wider community, to nurture happy, balanced kids.
KidsMatter Primary is a flexible, whole-school approach to improving children’s mental health and wellbeing for primary schools. Through KidsMatter Primary, schools undertake a two-to three-year cyclical process in which they plan and take action to be a positive community; one that is founded on respectful relationships and a sense of belonging and inclusion, and that promotes:
* social and emotional learning (including evidence-based social and emotional learning programs)
* working authentically with parents, carers and families
* support for students who may be experiencing mental health difficulties.
An Action Team, currently made up of Miss McLeod, Ms Beagley, Mrs Miritis, Mrs Clow, Mrs Hague, Mrs Owen, Mr Small, Mr Clarke, Mr Jenkins and our parent representative Mrs Mills, recently attended a 'Gettting Started' professional development session. The KidsMatter framework allows the team to work through components to ensure that the wellbeing programs that the school implements best meet the needs of the whole community.
As part of our work the Action Team is asking parents, students and staff to complete an online survey .
We would greatly appreciate as many families completing the survey as possible to allow us to gain a better understanding of our community needs.

Meet 3B and Prep J
Recently these grades were presented with a small treat for having the highest percentage of students registered in this year’s PRC. Congratulations to you all.
So far this year “Where is the Green Sheep?” by Mem Fox, “The Day the Crayons Quit” by Drew Daywall and “Black Beauty” by Anna Sewell are the most widely read books.
Keep those pages turning.
