VET News 2020

VET programs are very popular for students wishing to secure a future apprenticeship in traditional trades.

A reminder that deposits of $100 are required for Yr  9 -11 students wishing to study a VET program in 2020. Further payments are required this year to pay the full fees. Places are limited, so deposits are required asap to secure the student’s place in the class.

VET payment schedule is as follows:

20 September   $150

20 October          $150

20 November    Final Balance owing

AGA Trade Day

Selected students in Years 9-12 attended the annual Trial A Trade Day at AGA Deer Park. This was a great opportunity for students to assist with planning for their future pathways. The students spoke to current students and trainers about VET courses, SBATs and full time apprenticeship training offered at AGA. Students also participated in activities to experience the skills required for plumbing, carpentry, and auto.

Students in 9A were selected to participate in a 3 day FutureMe program delivered by Deakin University. Class room activities introduced students to the enterprise skills that will be needed for future employment. The campus tour at Waurn Ponds exposed the students to the facilities/resources/activities/ available to students when completing tertiary studies. Student Mentors from Deakin University assisted students to plan interview questions for their Campus Speed Meets. Students then interviewed 6 staff members with various occupations in a university setting to find out about their career pathways. It was very evident that their communication, team work and presentation skills developed as the rotations progressed.
