Mercy/St Pius play: A Little Princess

A message from Katherine Caron (Drama Teacher & Director, Mercy College)

"I am very sad to let you know that the decision has been made to cancel A Little Princess, 2020. It is disappointing news for all of us, but ultimately health is the most important thing.

Many events both inside and outside of school have been cancelled recently in line with government recommendations. The College would not want to put you in a position of risk or harm.

It has been lovely working with you on the play and I thank you all, cast, crew and dancers, for the generosity of spirit you have shown."

Year 10 & 11 Excursion: "The Crucible" on Friday 20 March - CANCELLED

Unfortunately, this excursion has now been cancelled. We hope there will be a time in the future when we can see this, or another play. Meanwhile we have some great resources in school of outstanding productions that have been filmed.

Year 11 Lecoq Workshop

Students in Year 11 had their second workshop with Guilluame Barrier (NIDA) last week. It was a brilliant opportunity for each group to show their work-in-progress and obtain vital feedback from Guilluame. Students presented each scene and then worked on character and story, particularly the reasoning behind the decisions each character makes and the obstacles they face. A lot of ground was covered and students worked in a creative and professional manner throughout.

Ms Penny Lindley - Drama Teacher

Sydney Symphony Orchestra

Last Thursday we took our elective music students to the Sydney Town Hall where we listened to the Sydney Symphony Orchestra perform Rimsky-Korsakov’s "Sherherezade". The boys in our school orchestra were most interested as they are rehearsing an arrangement of this piece at the moment. The boys were very well behaved and responded well to the music presented.

Sadly this type of excursion was the last of this type for the moment in the current COVID-19 crisis.

Individual Music Lessons & Ensemble Rehearsals

Please be aware that individual music lessons are still taking place as are ensemble rehearsals.

At this present time except for classes, lessons and ensembles all other activities where groups of people gather are not going ahead this includes this Friday's drama excursion, the Jazz Band workshop this Sunday and the Mercy play which had some of our boys in the cast.

The College is formulating a plan in the event that school is suspended. This includes instrumental lessons. We are looking into the capacity of Office 365 on the school platform for lessons. No other platform should be used for student/teacher communication. This includes any for of social media and programs like Skype or zoom. Please contact me directly for any other enquiries.
