Parents Association
A message from the STJPA
To our wonderful St James Community
Well what a great start to the school year we’ve had!
Congratulations to our young group of new Foundation students who have taken to their new school environment with great courage and enthusiasm and that along with making some new and wonderful friends, we hope they’re feeling very happy to be a part of our loving school community.
To the parents of new students in Foundation we congratulate you too for your courage here. It’s not easy sending your babies off to school (especially if it’s your first school year) and the first few weeks and information can leave you feeling sometimes overwhelmed by it all. Rest assured we are here to support you and answer any questions or concerns you have to the best of our ability. So lean on your school parents and PA team with any support you need at any time you need it.
As we mentioned in our last newsletter, we look forward to a positive and productive year ahead where we create experiences that both support and fundraise for the school.
To this end, we will continue to share the minutes of all our PA meetings, first of which, was held last night. Once the minutes are finalised, they will be forwarded to reps who will pass them onto year levels. We would also encourage all parents to contact Kate or I at any stage via email, should you have questions about the school year ahead, major events/activities or around our fundraising efforts and commitments this year. We are all a part of the discussion here in terms of fundraising, so please feel free to talk to us about your ideas and thoughts on this at any time.
As parents who have volunteered our time to support the school and parent communities, we will always put forward your questions/suggestions to the PA committee and ensure PA discussions and agreements are communicated to the school parent group consistently and regularly.
On that note, we still have some spaces available for some of our activities this year and urge you to consider assisting. We welcome teams to volunteer together, to make light work. We should also mention here that most of our events once organisers are assigned, still require additional support and help from us parents. Please feel free to assist where you can here on these activities in things like set-up, marshalls, stall helpers, pack-down etc.
Please refer to the following link for those roles / events that require volunteers. If you are able to volunteer, please email Kate on katekorber@gmail.com or Kat on katrina.cheshire@bigpond.com
Community consultation - suggestions for fundraising
In the coming week we will be asking our community to share their ideas for the focus of our fundraising efforts this year via a Google Form that will be sent out via email. These ideas will then be forwarded to school leadership who, together with the PA will develop a list of needs and wants. School leadership ultimately has an intimate understanding of what is needed and will benefit our children and their learning, but want to work with parents to develop a plan for spending moving forward.
SCHOOL WELCOME DISCO : FRIDAY 21ST FEBRUARY
Lastly, if you haven’t bought your family ticket to the 2020 St James Welcome Disco, there’s still time! Our first event of the year is our annual Family Welcome Disco held this Friday 21 February. This is a fantastic night where all families are invited to join in the fun for a couple of hours, to welcome in the school year!
DATE: Friday 21st February
TIME: 5.30pm – 7.30pm
THEME: Under the Sea
TICKETS:$15 per family — https://www.trybooking.com/BHPSG (please purchase beforehand)
‘Kids Disco’ will be hosting our disco and if you haven’t heard of them...you are in for a treat!
Food trucks will be available from 5.30pm
Seafood Food Truck : Salt & Pepa
Italian Food Truck : Coendi Pizza Lab
Ice-Cream Van : Mobile Ice-Creams
The theme is ‘Under the Sea’ and to this end, children are invited to dress up in their favourite under the sea costume or whatever they feel like wearing really. It’s up to them! Whatever they come in, we cannot wait to see all of our little fishies dancing on the seabed (aka. dance floor!).
A HUGE thank you to Michelle Thomas and Sarah Webb for organising the disco! See the flyer below.
PANCAKE DAY
On Tuesday 25th February we will celebrate Shrove Tuesday with pancakes! There will be no cost to children so no need for any gold coin donations this day. Tanya Schiffter will be leading the charge and to help the morning run smoothly, we ask for one volunteer from each class to help cook the pancakes. If you are able to assist, please contact the office. Pancakes will be cooked in the morning.
