Economics

On Tuesday the 27th of October, the Year 11 economics class participated in a ZOOM conference which was held by Westpac. The first half of the session was led by the RBA where they explained the effects of the Coronavirus on the economy and this was very interesting as it was something that we could relate to our studies and the current situation occurring around us. The second half of the ZOOM conference was led by a group of panellists who spoke about their job in economics and what is involved. A few interesting take-outs from the session were how versatile the study of economics could be in real-life settings. We found one of the panellists particularly interesting as her job is working as a sports economist. This involves deciding whether major sporting events such as the Olympics should take place and if it will benefit the chosen country’s economy. Overall, this experience was very insightful and we would love to do something similar in future.

Humanities

In Year 7 Humanities this term, we have been researching four different Ancient Civilisations: Egypt, China, Greece and Rome. Students were given a choice as to what Ancient Civilisation they were most interested in studying. Students had the opportunity to choose an activity from a creative choice grid. The grid choices included podcasts, sculptures, posters, virtual tours and independent research tasks.   The girls thoroughly enjoyed being able to work at their own pace and to lead their own independent learning. As a result, the final creations were outstanding and showed their love of learning. Please see some examples of the work below.
