From the Principal

Dear Families of Killester,

Our Gospel this week comes from Matthew:

“The kingdom of God is like a man going off on an extended trip. He called his servants together and delegated responsibilities. To one he gave five thousand dollars, to another two thousand, to a third one thousand, depending on their abilities…The first servant went to work and doubled his master’s investment. The second did the same. But the man with the single thousand dug a hole and carefully buried his master’s money.”   Matthew 25, 14-30

When accompanied by our two readings from Proverbs and Paul's Letter to the Thessalonians, we see that we are being urged to look at how we use our God given gifts and talents for the benefit of others and our society. Each member of the Killester community has unique gifts and talents and our responsibility is to ensure that these are provided with rich fertile ground in which to flourish. We are incredibly proud of the way the young woman of Killester use their gifts and talents for the benefit of others, they inspire staff every day with their willingness to often step outside their comfort zone in order to be a better version of themselves.

This week has not only involved our Remembrance Day service, it is also NAIDOC week where we celebrate the 65,000+ years of continued care and occupation of our land by our First Nations people. This week at Killester we have prayed in solidarity with our First Nations People who were the first to step foot on our continent and who are the oldest continuing culture on the planet.

Students completing a Unit 3/4 study in 2020 have commenced their VCE exams and our VCAL classes are finishing their competencies this week. I would like to acknowledge all of the hard work that has led to the culmination of these assessments, staff and students have navigated the challenges of this pandemic year in a way that has ensured students were well prepared and calm as they entered Kennedy Hall. As always, the VCAA exam supervisors have commented on the exemplary conduct of our young woman. I wish every student the best of luck with any exams, assessments or competency based work being conducted in these final few weeks of school for 2020. Students at Killester are urged to do their absolute best and to celebrate and acknowledge when this has been achieved; no matter what the actual mark or outcome if our students are able to end the year knowing they did their best, they have much of which to be proud.

A few reminders will be sent to students next week about uniform and laptop use, should parents wish to discuss any of these issues with the College you are encouraged to speak to your daughter's homeroom teacher or year level student development leader.

I wish all of those in our community who celebrate Diwali a very happy and joyful weekend as you enjoy the festival of light with family and friends in unique 2020 style,

Ms Sally Buick
