Grade 3: Term 4 overview

Welcome back to our Grade 3 students and families. We are beyond proud of all your achievements throughout remote learning in Term 3. We are so excited to be back in the classroom and completing Term 4 onsite.

In Reading, we will be focusing on reviewing being a balanced reader, which consists of ‘Fluency & Phrasing, Decoding and Comprehension’. We will be doing this through a range of fiction and non fiction texts during independent reading/tasks, interactive read alouds, modelled reading, shared reading and guided reading.

We strongly encourage each child to continue participating in take home reading and record their comments in their diaries. Take home reading is a fantastic opportunity to practise being a balanced reader and practise reading goals.

In Writing, we will be reviewing text types that students have learnt about this year, including narrative, information reports, persuasive texts, poetry and procedures. We aim to provide opportunities for students to develop their writing craft and creativity.

In spelling, students will be exposed to numerous spelling rules which will allow them to explore the phonemes of words, graph, digraph and trigraph sounds.

In Maths, we will be focusing on our big idea focus of ‘ Multiplicative thinking’ through number talks, warm ups and games.

In addition to our big idea, we will be learning about 3 different units.

  • Symmetry, transformation and location.
  • Fractions.
  • Financial Maths.

Within these units students will learn to apply their fluency and understanding of these concepts and apply them to real world situations through problem solving.

We are all looking forward to making the most of all learning opportunities this term.

Kind Regards,

The Year 3 Team
