Boy Overboard Responses

We have been reading 'Boy Overboard' by Morris Gleitzman which is the story of two refugees children from Afghanistan. This is a powerful literary response from Paige O in 5/6A.

Taken aback,

Yet we are still on track,

We should let them be here,

But this date never appears,

I want to help them,

But they are in detention.

Their hunger grows,

And their motivation slows,

They slave away,

Until the break of day,

And still I sleep,

Don’t even bleat,

And they are still crying,

Still dying.

Their tent is full,

I want to pull,

Them closer to safety,

But Scomo says don’t be hasty,

I try to fight,

But that's only at night,

I am still trying,

But they are still crying.

I beg you please,

Let them ease,

I love these people,

Why aren’t they equal?

Surf Day

We are excited that our students can travel to Phillip Island for the annual Surf Day. 5/6H and 5/6S will be attending on Thursday 3rd December.

5/6A and 5/6B will be attending on Monday 7th December.

You should have received a Konnective with the permission form and details. If you did not receive it, please contact Meredith - meredith.thornton@education.vic.gov.au for details.

There is no Bike Education on Thursday 3rd December due to Surf Day.

Graduation

Plans for Graduation are continually changing with new restrictions. We are still confirming how the updated guidelines impact on our event.

  • Year 6 students will be dropped at school at 6pm for light refreshments.
  • The ceremony will begin at 7pm (details TBC).
  • Students are encouraged to wear smart casual clothes.

The Parent Representatives have sent emails regarding a small task to complete prior to Graduation and the Year Books. We appreciate your quick response to these requests.

School Leaders

We are still in the process of selecting school leaders for 2021. The nominees for School Captain have been short-listed and interviews were completed yesterday. A decision will be made and communicated as soon as possible. Congratulations to all those who showed initiative and leadership by applying for positions.

2021 Transition to Year 7 News

On Wednesday, the department sent out its most updated instructions for Orientation Day. As a result, both Doncaster SC (DSC) and East Doncaster SC (EDSC) have emailed to inform me that they will be conducting their onsite Orientation Days on Tuesday 8th December for all of their 2021 Year 7 students. Therefore, on that day, all DSC and EDSC Year 7 2021 students will spend their whole school day at their respective campuses (i.e. they will not come to ACPS on that day at all). They can wear free dress.

On the day, all students will be required to wear face masks while indoors. Face masks are not required outdoors or during recess and lunchtime, except where physical distancing of 1.5m cannot be obtained.

EDSC and DSC will both be uploading virtual information sessions (an online video) to parents next week with more detailed, specific information.

To date, other state secondary schools have not informed me regarding their orientation days. I do not know whether they will be doing the same as DSC and EDSC. I am certain that they will inform both myself and their Year 7 parents of any plans that they might have regarding this. Should I hear anything, I will pass on this information.

Thank you
