The KHS STEM elective began this year with 40 students across the two semesters. These students have been actively engaged in integrating the knowledge from all four disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The students devised paper circuits, built structures with Tinkercad, worked on Arduino projects, learnt to code basic Python using Grok learning. The elective provided opportunities for students to build models and pursue their passion in STEM.

The Mathematics faculty has focused on improving the financial literacy of our student and school community this year. In Term 1, year 9 students attended a series of workshops with accompanying in-class activities on effective money management focused on earning, spending and budgeting. During Term 4, Year 11 Mathematics Standard students have begun a financial wellbeing unit using resources from MoneySmart. Financial literacy concepts have been incorporated into the curriculum and students are learning how to save for and maintain a car.

The school community can support our students by using the resources available on the school’s website about how to be money savvy and techniques to handle the unstable financial climate we are in due to COVID-19.
