Special Education

Health Studies

During Term 3 in Health Studies, 7-8N have been learning about the Olympics. We have created individual flags to represent chosen countries and learnt about the history of both the ancient and modern Olympic Games. We made our own Olympic torches and had a torch lighting ceremony. We competed in various Olympic events, including sprint races and overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We learnt that the Olympic spirit is more important than coming first and that we should always try our best regardless of the circumstance.

Dance

Their last term, 10-12F, created a live dance theatre piece around one of their favourite sports. ‘Basketball’ looked at the physical skills, determination and focus athletes face when playing, this term they will be reworking this concept for film and developing their filmmaking skills.

Drama

Work Studies/Drama students have been using the theatre space to learn voice, public speaking, body language and work etiquette skills in order to better prepare for entering the workplace. Students in 10/12F Special Education have demonstrated the ability to make and/or receive difficult phone calls in a work setting and practise, receiving and recording accurate and detailed 'phone messages' for a 'colleague' in their workplace. Students had to demonstrate correct voice technique and questioning as well as strategies to manage their stress and emotions if they become overwhelmed in work environments. The Drama space and discipline provides perfect opportunities to get 'work ready'!

Visual Arts

This year Special Education students from Ms Keever's and Mr Gillard’s classes studied drawing, collage, printmaking and ceramics. Below is a sample of their work.
