Creative and Performing Arts

This year our Stage 5 students have been engaging in Dance, Drama, Music, Photography and Visual Arts. Whilst our external performance opportunities have been limited we are still creating and showcasing in our classrooms. 

Dance

Year 9 Dance have begun their Composition journey, learning about The Elements of Dance- Space, Time and Dynamics. They have learnt to create a contemporary dance piece with a concept that is evident through the whole work. Music

Last term in Music, Year 9 completed a Mashups and Medleys assessment, forming small ensembles and combining two or three songs to create their own mashup or medley. This term, they will keep working on their skills in small ensembles or as solo artists to rehearse performances of Australian Music and present them to their classes. Keep up the hard work, Year 9!

Drama

Given the year we've been dealt, Year 10 Drama, like all of us, have had to make some adjustments. The new Drama unit of work Commedia Dell Arte (Italian for "comedy of the profession") has been successfully introduced to Drama here at Kingswood High School and students have had an absolute ball learning about a 16th to 18th Century performance style. As eager as our Year 10 Drama students were to use our brand new Basel Masks, COVID regulations had other plans. Students were taught how to create their own 18th Century, theatrically accurate masks according to their selected character and perform a full 5-minute group performance centred on a typical Commedia scenario, complete with their own mask. You will find these beautiful masks hanging in the Drama Studio. 

Visual Arts

Year 10 have been working on a Surrealism unit and students are currently working on Surrealist paintings. They have many colourful and strange drawings in their Visual Arts Diaries. Here are just a few: 

Year 9 Visual Arts students have investigated sustainability and sculpture this semester through the use of recycled and repurposed materials. 

Photography 

Year 9 Photography have been working on a unit of work on Surrealism and students have been taking photographs around the school during Term 3 to combine into a digital photomontage. Students were introduced to Photoshop techniques and used their new skills to create a Surreal landscape.

Vocal Mentoring Program

Former student and The Voice 2020 contestant Elyse Sene-Lefao has been engaging students with singing potential over the last term. She has seen outstanding growth and confidence in many students. Keep an eye on the Kingswood High School Official Facebook page for some upcoming videos.
