This week we have had a busy few days of further fodder conservation, driver training, excursions to Patane Produce, shearer and wool handling training and a visit from the equine dentist.

Hats and Jewellery

Before I talk about the many excellent learning opportunities our students have received I have to remind everyone that broad brim hats are compulsory on farm. Please resolve this prior to your farm day or you will be spending your day with me, completing associated farm theory under the cover of the library. Students can purchase new hats from the front office prior to the school day.

Jewellery is also becoming an issue across the farm and as with hats, if you wear jewellery to farm you will spend the day completing farm related theory work with Mr Dyson or Mr Howell.

Sheep

On a more positive note, Mr Adams has completed another day of shearer and wool handling training with some of our Year 11’s on Monday.

First Aid

On Wednesday our new Year 11’s completed day one of their Provide First Aid course which will be completed next Wednesday. All of our

Patane Produce

Year 10 students will be visiting Patane Produce and receiving a tour and information from Pennie Patane. Yesterday 18 students completed a tour of the Patane Produce facilities and what was immediately apparent to all of us was the redundancy of manual handling and the heavy emergence of mechanisation and technology into their business structure. From the planting, growing, harvesting and packaging it is all mechanised to provide efficiencies across large volumes and reduce manual handling in almost all of the areas where there was a heavy reliance in previous years.

Pennie did say to me that she is keen for any of our College students to contact her seeking casual work opportunities over the summer break as she will be short staffed at an extremely high demand time.

Equine

On Friday Mr Edwards gave students the opportunity to work with our horse dentist which is a great opportunity for those students with such an interest.

Certificate lll Agriculture

Any student wishing to enrol in Certificate III in Agriculture should give their application form to Mr Dyson as soon as possible. The deadline for application has now passed and when I allocate farm groups and roster hubs they will be at a disadvantage.

Weekend Stock

Those students who have weekend stock coming up, please make sure you are available as we will be relying upon you to assist with milking and other farm obligations.
