School Education Board

Update from the School Education Board

It was fantastic to host our final meeting for the year outside, socially distanced in the Passive Play Area. The School Board were, however, extremely devastated to hear of Verona’s health concerns and we all send our thoughts and prayers. We are confident that the school community will all be thinking of Verona as she confronts this challenge.

We would like to thank Rohan Sutton for his time on the school board, Rohan has made some insightful contributions over the past couple of years and the Board appreciates his commitment to the school community. There is a position available going into 2021 and if anyone is interested in joining the board, please do not hesitate to contact Sarah Longmore at gilmore42@bigpond.com or Monica through the school to discuss. The AGM will occur in mid-February and all will be welcome to attend.

There were a number of issues to discuss and most importantly we were all pleased to hear that some of the usual end of year school activities are going ahead as planned. Once again, we commend the staff for doing all they can to provide some normality for the students. There has continued to be online learning for the staff including the opportunity to meet with Dr Lyn Sharratt who has provided lots of insight to the staff over the last two years. It is always wonderful to see the staff continue to grow and develop their skills.

The changes to governance continues to move forward and the leadership team have met with the Parish over the shared spaces. We are fortunate to have access to many different facilities between the school and the Parish and it was great to hear that this will continue into 2021. We also welcomed the news that the school redevelopment tender will soon be finalised and a timeline in place for the building project to begin is imminent.

It has obviously been an unusual year. We have felt very fortunate throughout 2020 to have an amazing team at St John’s and we have no doubt the school community feels the same. We will remain committed to advising and supporting the staff into 2021 and look forward to welcoming new families to the Board.

As this is our last report for 2020, we wish all our St John’s families and friends a very safe and Happy Christmas.
