From the Principal

WELCOME PICNIC

Our school picnic tea is planned for this Thursday 12 Februaryfrom 6 to 8 pm on the school oval. All families in the school (Prep – 6) are invited to bring your own picnic tea (food and drink), and blanket or chair.  As this is a family function, it is essential that a parent or guardian accompany each child attending and are fully responsible for the supervision of their children. Older siblings are welcome if also in the care of parents.  Normal school rules apply (no dogs, bikes, scooters etc.). We wish this to be a pleasant family evening and I encourage all families to come along, meet new friends and old, chat with the staff, and have an enjoyable informal evening.

PARENT INFORMATION WORKSHOPS

We will be holding information workshops for parents on Monday 2 March and Tuesday 3 March. These workshops will cover various curriculum areas and are aimed to give parents an insight into our school day, and how parents can support their children at home. The areas to be covered will be Literacy (in particular reading comprehension), Numeracy, Inquiry Learning, Assessment/Data, and ICT (Information and Communication Technologies).  All class teachers and specialists will be involved in presenting the workshops. More specific information about the workshops will be sent home next week.

CLASS REPRESENTATIVES

Each year, each class has a parent representative (Class Rep) to act as a conduit at times between the teacher and parents, to welcome new families to the class and to assist with fundraising. Please see the attachment below for more information.

If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the attachment and forward to the office.  One of the first roles of the Class Rep will be to take on the role of preparing the class contact lists (see below) under the guidance of office staff.

CLASS CONTACT LISTS

Tomorrow a form will be sent home with all children for parents to complete if they would like to be included on class contact lists.

Parents often find these lists handy if they wish to arrange ‘play dates’ or birthday parties.  Class reps may also use these lists to contact parents in regard to fundraising assistance and classroom help. If you would like to be included on the contact list, please complete the form and send it back to school ASAP so that the lists can be compiled.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

Nominations for vacancies for the 2015 School Council closed today at 4pm. We received four nominations for the four vacant parent positions. I therefore declare Ravi Eranti, Phil Gardiner, Neil Moody and Serren Schindler elected unopposed. There were two nominations for the two vacant DET places. I therefore declare Nerida Burns and Gillian Large elected unopposed. The new school council will meet next Monday 16 February for co-option purposes and to elect office bearers. Dates of other School Council meetings will be decided once the new School Council is formed.

SAFE PARKING

Parents are reminded to park safely and legally around the school.  Please note parking restriction times, and also note that the staff car park is restricted to staff only, and is neither a public car park nor an entry point for pedestrians.  Your cooperation in adhering to our safety rules is much appreciated.
