An update from Senior School

It is with great pleasure that I announce our Year 12 Formal has been rescheduled to August 27th.  This will be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the growth and determination we have seen in our Year 12 students this year.  We have been so impressed with the consistent study routines students have displayed since our return to school this term.  They are exemplary role models for our Year 7 to 9 students.

The last fortnight has seen an incredible amount of resilience from our senior school students as they transitioned into remote learning and back to face-to-face.  We are grateful today that we are back on site as it was this time last year that we returned to remote learning for the rest of Term 3.  During the remote teaching period, we were overwhelmed with the positive learning behaviours displayed. In particular, over 400 DARE comments were made for our senior students for:

  • participating in online classes, sharing ideas in discussions, turning on videos
  • coming to online lessons on time and completing classwork and homework
  • communicating with teachers when needing any extra assistance during remote learning

Well done to all of our senior students for their active participation in remote learning!

Course Confirmation Day:

Our course confirmation day was held last Thursday.  Students were prepared for their meetings and had clearly considered their subject choices for their senior school program.  Students were able to reflect on their strengths and identify an area to focus on to continue preparation for next year.  In particular, students discussed their learning behaviours.  In conversation with their course counsellor, many students selected one learning behaviour in particular to focus on and worked to identify strategies for improvement in Term 3.  I encourage you to have a discussion about this, below is a link to the learning behaviour report for reference.

What’s happening this week

Term 3 is a big term for our VCE students.  It is when our time management and prioritisation come into play - balancing our commitments to Unit 2 and 4, and for those of us enrolled in a Unit 3 and 4 subject, revision of Unit 3 and preparation for our end of year exams.

This week, our Year 11 students are participating in a Study Workshop.  After reflecting on their semester one achievements to set aspirational goals for Term 3, students are now in the action phase, looking at what strategies they need to include in their weekly planner to achieve their goals.

Year 12s will begin their VTAC tertiary application process; creating a VTAC account and beginning to select their preferences. This is a good opportunity for students to contextualise their Semester 2 goals and align this with where they want to be in the years after high school. Families are also invited to a VTAC parent information session on Thursday 5th August, 6pm. All details and the WebEx link are available on Compass.  As a result of lockdown, Open Days are currently not running in face-to-face settings, however, there are a lot of online options that you might like to watch with your child.  These are available via the University websites.

If you are looking for ways to support your child, I encourage you to:

Have a conversation with your child about their time management & their study plan, how are they balancing & prioritising their time? What strategies are they using to relax and include play in their week?
