BOOKWEEK - Monday 23rd August - Friday 27th August

Mason Cooley said, “Reading gives us some place to go when we have to stay where we are" and this couldn't be anymore timelier with our current situation.

We have missed a lot of the book week celebrations being in lockdown, however, some we were able to move online, which was fantastic!  One challenge we put out to our students was to share a pic of their current read and to make it as creative or as simple as they like.

Carly, our school librarian would like to announce the winners of this Challenge:

1st Place Winner - Creative entry - Evelyn C !

First place winner for her creative entry goes to Evelyn C for her submission of

‘How to Make a Movie in 12 days’

First Place Winner - "What I'm Reading Now" - Kyla M

And next we have Kyla M for her "What I’m reading now" submission, ‘A Girl Called Justice’

Book of the Year 2021

On Friday 21st August, the CDCA (Children’s Book Council of Australia) announced their book of the year to start off the book week celebrations.  The winner for older readers is ‘The End of The World is Bigger Than Love written by Davina Bell.  Davina Bell is an award winning writer from Western Australia.

~ Identical twin sister Summer and Winter live alone on a remote island, sheltered from the fallout of a mysterious event that has laid waste to the rest of the world.

They survive on rations stockpiled by their father and spend their days reading and rereading their mother’s collection of classic literature - until the arrival of a mysterious stranger upends their carefully constructed reality.

At first Edward is a welcome distraction. But who is he really, and why has he come? As love blooms and the world stops spinning, the secrets of the girls’ past begin to unravel and escape is the only option. ~

We have this book in our catalogue in the library and is my current read, so when we get back onsite come and have a chat about the book and give it a go.   - Carly, SCSC Librarian
