WHAT'S HAPPENING @ SCSC?

HANDS ON LEARNING

RESPECT: Congratulations to these legends for helping to repaint and refurbish a toilet block in Moorabool St Geelong.  The toilet block is connected to a church whom feed the homeless of that area every morning.  The group came across some of the less fortunate people who attend these mornings and the respect that they showed was well and truly above their age bracket.

The project was put together by a good friend Adrian Farrow of Tenon Joinery. He and his company had helped us last year by donating a kitchen for another project that we undertook. We also had the help of the Hands on Learning regional managers Leon Carey and Kim Baker, who came down for the day to lend their support.

The Friday group were down there subsequent days to put another coat of paint on the walls before Tenon take over and complete a new fit out.

WELL DONE TEAM!

YEAR 10 - Snow Camp

UNITE:  We are so glad our Year 10 students got to go on their snow camp last Wednesday - Friday prior to lock-down.  Thank you to our wonderful staff for all their hard work getting this camp off the ground and creating a wonderful experience for all who attended. Everyone enjoyed a bluebird day on Wednesday, got a lot of skiing and snowboarding time in and were so well behaved we received many compliments.  Great work to all those involved!

YEAR 12 - VET Sport & Rec

UNITE: The Year 12 VET Sport Recreation class managed to squeeze in their snowboarding camp between lockdowns. Students enjoyed time at Mt Buller and improved their snowboarding skills as well as learning skills related to topics such as risk assessment, educating user groups and facilitating groups.

RESPECT: Barwon Health gave us some great positive feedback about both of our snow camp students.   A nurse from the Torquay COVID Swabbing Clinic contacted us directly to say our "students have been an absolute delight to deal with, have been perfectly behaved and are setting a great example for our College".

Well done to our students for displaying our College value RESPECT to members of our community.

Years 10, 11 & 12 Science: Pearson Australia Photo Competition

Pearson Australia are currently running a photo competition for 10/11/12 students with the theme of Chemistry or Physics.  Whilst students are in remote for the next week or so, you may be keen to do something different at home and have a break from your screen time.  It's free to enter and  can be done individually.   See details below:

The goal of the student photo competitions is to encourage students to take a brain break, and to get excited about science! We know times are tough and want to ensure as many students as possible have the opportunity to take a brain break, and earn their shot at the prize.

For this reason, the 2021 VCE Science Student Photo Competition has been extended until the end of the first week of Term 4.  Student entries are now due by 5pm (AEST) on Sunday, 10 October 2021.

VCAL - Caravan Upcycle Update

STRIVE:  VCAL students have been busy spray painting and sanding the caravan! Plumbing has started on the interior and is nearly ready for fitting out.  Some wheels are also about to go on to get the van rolling along.  Great work by all involved!

College Production has sadly been cancelled

As our College Production of 'The Addams Family' was scheduled for September 1 to 3, which is during the lockdown period, we will unfortunately have to cancel the event.

This of course is very sad since we have put a lot of work in recently to rearranging things to ensure that were were able to safely undertake the production within restrictions.

The College is still discussing the potential of holding this production early in 2022, as a date later in 2021 cannot occur due to several cast members taking exams and the Wurdi Baierr stadium not being available at such short notice.

We will discuss this with the cast and keep the College community informed. Anyone who purchased tickets will be refunded their money soon.  We thank you for your understanding and for all the amazing work of our students who spent so much time rehearsing.  They do look fabulous in their costumes though!

More Book Week Schenanigans

UNITE: The Administration Team were all involved in their Book Week dress up Friday morning for their weekly meeting.  Can anyone guess which theme they all went with? Or which characters everyone was?

A clue: Alice couldn't join our meeting; we think she got lost down the rabbit hole!
