COLLEGE

10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Surf Coast Insight - Celebrating Past to Present

Each week, we will ask two of our staff members about the changes they have seen since the beginning of their journey at Surf Coast Secondary College in 2012 to now.

This week, we will hear from our Principal, Erin Wright and our Business Manager, Stacey Colman who had the unique experience of seeing SCSC conceptually, then watching the actual build as the school came to life.

What has been the biggest change to the College since you started back in 2012?
Before becoming the Assistant Principal at SCSC, I was working for the Region at DET, working on a technology project.  This was a great opportunity for me, but I really missed working directly with students, so jumped at the chance to be part of the creation of this wonderful new school at the time.

What has been the most positive or influential moment during your career at SCSC?
There could not be a single moment.  The most impactful thing for me is all of the wonderful students that I have had the privilege to get to know, teach and support.

How has your time at the College impacted you both professionally and personally?

Well, I am now the Principal of this amazing school, so that is wonderful.  So professionally, I am so proud to have developed my own leadership to be able to have this honour.  Personally, I have just loved being part of the creativity involved in developing the SCSC vision over time and watching all of the students and staff flourish.  We truly have a wonderful school community and I am so proud of every moment that I have been part of this.

What are you looking forward to about the future of SCSC and your role working with young people here?
Continuing to STRIVE for excellence in all aspects of our work with young people. I am looking forward to refining our models for Teaching and Learning and also Wellbeing to give our community improved clarity about what SCSC is about.

What were you doing before you started working at SCSC in 2012?
I had been working in schools for a number of years before starting at SCSC in Term 3 of 2011. Directly before SCSC I was working as the Business Manager at North Geelong Secondary College

What has been the biggest change to the College since you started back in 2012?
The biggest change has been the growth we have seen over the years. I remember we reported just 200 students in February 2012, and now we are almost at 1000!

What has been the most positive or influential moment during your career at SCSC?
For me this cannot be put into a single moment. I absolutely respect and am in awe of the staff, students, parents/carers and members of the community who support our school each day.
