Socktober

Students and families, get ready to kick some goals for kids in need this year with Socktober! This year our school is partnering with Catholic Mission by participating in Socktober. We invite our students to connect with young people experiencing challenges in the developing world through education and the world game of soccer. Our collective fundraising efforts will support vulnerable children in Thailand through a kindergarten run by the Good Shepherd Sisters in Bangkok. The kindergarten provides a caring learning environment for the children and allows their parents, often single mothers, to work and support the family.

As a school, we have the opportunity to contribute in a special way and put our faith into action.

Our Socktober Event Day has been set for Monday 11 October and we are very excited to share a few key goals for our school:

  • Parents  please register your child/ren on the Socktober site: www.socktober.org.au
  • Students will be working through the Socktober Challenges in class together throughout the month of October, learning how children in Thailand live, learn and play, while doing their best to support them.
  • As students work through the activities and kick their goals, they can get sponsored by friends and family, with the money going to support children in need in Thailand and around the world.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Reconciiation will take place this year on 4 November and the Parent Information Night will be on Thursday 28 October at 7pm. If we are able to hold the information evening at the school, it will be at St John's Mitcham Church, to enable social distancing.

Ideally the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be with all family members attending but if required we will hold it during the daytime with students only. This is what happened last year. The students will receive the necessary preparation for this sacrament next term, during RE lessons. We are also hoping to have a Student Reflection Day but will let you know closer to the time if this is to go ahead.

Our Year Three students will be celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation this year but if you have a child in another year level who you believe is ready to celebrate the sacrament, please make contact with me.
