AGTV German Poetry Competition - State Final

On Saturday, 28th August three students from Rangeview PS participated in the AGTV German Poetry Competition state final.

Will, Siddharth (Year 5) and Sisley (Year 6) participated in a live Zoom event during which they recited their poem to a panel of German-speaking judges.

There were a total of 19 German networks from both metropolitan and regional Victoria who took part in the competition.

As both first and second place winners from the regional final were invited to take part in this special event, there were approximately 38 students from each year level (Years 5 – 9) competing against one another.

Students were judged on their pronunciation, intonation, phrasing and how well they were able to deliver the meaning of the poem to the judges.

We are delighted to announce that Sisley was awarded first place for Year 6 and will receive a medal and framed certificate for her achievements.

Rangeview PS will also be sent the University of Melbourne shield, displaying Sisley’s and our school’s name, which will be on display in the school foyer for the next 12 months.

Congratulations to all three students for their outstanding effort, dedication and achievements. Wir sind sehr stolz auf euch! (We are very proud of you!)

Foundation Fun

Foundation students have been studying ‘Toys’ with their classroom teachers, and in German they have learnt German vocabulary for ‘Die Spielzeuge’ (Toys).  We have also been revising our colours and numbers.  The concept of ‘Big and Small’ (Groß und Klein) was introduced along with the Toys.  They have been singing and dancing in German too, which is lovely to see.  Thank you to all the children (and parents) for posting videos and photos participating in the German activities, speaking in German, and singing and dancing to German songs.

Vatertag (Father’s Day)

This week we will be celebrating ‘Vatertag’ (Father’s day) on ‘Sonntag’ (Sunday).  The children are making beautiful and heartfelt cards in German (Vatertagskarten) for the special person in their life.

Wir wünschen allen Papas einen schönen Vatertag am Sonntag!  We wish all the Dads a lovely Father’s Day on Sunday!

Viel Spaß und Vergnügen!

Should you have any queries about how to best support your child’s German language development, we would love to hear from you on the Sentral Parent Portal.
