What time is it? Performing Arts!

Achilles Community

In Performing Arts, students have been exploring drama through role-playing different characters in the space. They have started to work on developing their drama performance skills by using a big loud voice to speak, big actions to move as their character, and show different feelings using their face. Students have used their imagination to perform guided movement journeys and share what they enjoyed pretending to act out in the space. They have begun to use props and costume pieces to transform into creative characters and engage in dramatic play with others.

Argus & Xenica Community

In Performing Arts, students have been exploring drama through role-playing imaginary scenarios and responding to stories. They have started to develop their drama skills and build confidence with performing to each other by re-enacting the story of, ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ by Maurice Sendak. Students have performed freeze frames to show the sequence of the story using improvisation. They have also performed as the characters of the story using scripted drama. Students have further used their imagination to create their own silly or scary monster character to engage with others in dramatic play.

Ulysses Community

In Performing Arts, students have started to learn the concepts of dance in order to create and perform their own routine using the dance elements and choreographic devices. Students have been practising choreography to the song, ‘Surf’s Up’ from the movie Teen Beach, whilst also developing an understanding about the historical context of the 1960’s popular dance actions included in the combinations. They have started to reflect on their performance and how they can develop their technical and expressive skills in the space after watching back each section they have learned.

Icarus Community

In Performing Arts, students have started to learn the concepts of dance in order to create and perform their own routine using the dance elements and choreographic devices. They have been learning a fast-paced, hip-hop routine called, ‘Jumpstart’ which has a range of dynamics (movement qualities). From understanding about the energy required in a hip-hop routine, students will then apply the skills to devise their own. They have also reflected on professional dance performances to develop an understanding of the expressive and technical skills required to perform to an audience.

Junior School for Remote Learning

The Achilles, Argus and Xenica communities have been continuing to develop their online drama skills through various activities. They have acted out what they would like to be when they grow up, used props and costume pieces as inspiration to invent a character, and performed nursery rhymes using their imagination, voice and movements in the space. For Book Week, students read the book, ‘If Kids Ruled the World’ by Linda Bailey and acted out a scenario of what life would be if kids ruled the world!

Senior School for Remote Learning

The Ulysses and Icarus communities have been continuing to develop their dance skills through various online activities. A few activities centred on the Olympics where students had to create a dance sequence inspired by the different sports. Students then had to respond to dance by creating a poster of their favourite Olympic inspired dance style such as Rhythmic Gymnastics, Synchronised Swimming and Figure Skating and reflected on how the performers used the dance elements: energy, actions, space and timing. For Book Week, students explored our Indigenous Aboriginal Culture of Song and Dance by experiencing a dance workshop to create their own movement sequences.
