What's been happening in Visual Arts?

Artist Spotlight

Meet some special Year 1/2 Artists who took their Visual Arts to a whole new level during remote learning. After visiting the National Gallery of Victoria and virtually exploring the exhibition: ‘Marking Time; Indigenous Art’, Xenica and Argus communities were thrilled to create their own art galleries!

This is Vansh introducing his very own mini-art gallery!

His art gallery was lucky enough to have ‘visitors’ who came and purchased his work! Amazing!

There isn’t enough space in this newsletter to share with you all the inspiring art galleries created by students across the communities, but please see them all by watching the video showcasing the wonderful talent and effort put in by Xenica and Argus! I think I’m going to be a very busy person in the future, visiting art galleries as I’m sure some of these could be real!

Special mention to our superstar artists; Maria, Caley, Asees, Manasvi, Saisha, Kavleen, Reyansh and Muhammad Ibrahim for their video contributions. It's delightful to see students enthusiastically bringing their art galleries to life. Be sure toenjoy their art galleries in the video above.

If you happened to have missed it, check out our inspiration from the National Gallery of Victoria. They have many Virtual Tours, and it's a wonderful chance to explore different exhibitions that you might otherwise not get to see!

Achilles

Achilles have experimented with a range of materials this term, both at school and at home during remote learning. At school, students played with sponges and acrylic paints to create textured ocean backgrounds and were learning to draw sea creatures through procedural drawing steps. At home, they have continued to develop their skills using different materials by creating various artworks from objects and materials available to them in their homes and gardens! They have continued to display enthusiasm and creativity throughout their tasks. Enjoy these images of their work!

Xenica and Argus

Salad Spinner for Art!
Salad Spinner for Art!

Term Three began with the Year 1/2s experimenting with food dye in a salad spinner, to create some very cool Spin Art! They added contour lines and patterns to their artworks and were preparing them to hang as a decoration. Hopefully we will get the opportunity soon to get back in the artroom to complete them!

As you saw from the video above, the Xenica and Argus Communities have continued to explore Visual Arts in interesting ways during Remote Learning. They continue to impress me with the creativity and effort they demonstrate as they move through the challenges of remote learning. As well as exploring art galleries, they've used their imagination to turn their handprint into art. They then related their art experiences to the Olympic Games, creating shadow puppets and the Olympic Rings.

**Please excuse the audio in this video, I had to remove the voices.

Icarus and Ulysses

During Remote Learning, Icarus and Ulysses first focused their learning on the Olympics and Paralympics. They explored the history and use of ‘pictographs’, even creating some of their own for sports in and out of the Olympics! Students also made motivational artworks to send to the Paralympic Athlete’s Village in Toyko Japan. Some students chose to post or email a photograph of their work to Paralympics Australia. I’m sure their artworks are currently on the wall inspiring our athletes to do their best!

The Ulysses community also partook in creating ‘Shadow Puppets’ to celebrate the closing ceremony of the Olympics and to extend on their knowledge of ‘Pictographs’. Please enjoy these examples of some of their amazing, hard work!

Icarus and Ulysses have continued the term in art by exploring famous artists and artworks. They have visited different Virtual Art Galleries, including The Louvre and found out some really interesting facts about some of the things they have viewed along the way! Currently, Icarus are in the process of recreating a famous artwork in their own way. I'm very curious to see what ideas they come up with!
