OSHClub

What we’ve been up to at OSHC!

It’s been a little quieter than usual here at OSHClub due the recent lockdown, however, we’ve had an amazing time creating fabulous activities for children and families to do at home! In addition, we’ve continued to provide a fabulous program for children attending onsite!

OSHC at Home

Staying connected with families within the community, the team at St James OSHClub decided to start our own OSHC at home! We absolutely love our afternoon clubs here at St James OSHClub, so each afternoon we have been sending out some activity ideas from our art, sports, cooking, sustainability and coding clubs.

If you’d like to have a look at some great activity ideas for your family during lockdown, please feel free to check out all our recorded club ideas and videos here!

We hope you love bringing a little bit of OSHC home with you!

OSHC at School

Sustainability Club

Taking on the challenge of becoming the St James Habitat Heroes, Lidia and Laura were one with nature as we started our new OSHC vegetable garden! We loved planting some spinach, carrot, beans and tomatoes. Lidia and Laura can’t wait to see the seedlings grow. Lidia will be ‘plant mum’ these holidays, taking care of the plants so that they are ready for the planter boxes next term!

Art Club

Lidia loved exploring her creativity and fine motor skills in the art corner at OSHClub, making some beautiful creations for her family. Fabulous work Lidia!

Cooking Club featuring Father’s Day!

Cooking up a storm in the OSHC kitchens, the children have absolutely loved baking some sweet treats for the special people in our lives. We had some beautiful conversations about our Fathers Figures and why we love them so much!

Click here to listen to Lidia explaining why she loves her Uncle Tom!

Pen Pals

Staying connected with our local community, Lidia started writing to a pen pal at another local primary school! Lidia has absolutely loved creating and receiving pictures to share with her pen pal.

“I love that Charlotte put so much effort into the letter!”- Lidia, Prep.

Family Tree

Recently at OSHC, we’ve been working on the creation of our OSHClub family tree. Charlie in Grade 1 has helped to paint the sign for this area and has been the first family to join our tree. We hope to use this space as an area to celebrate the different cultures and families that make up the OSHC community at St James.

If you currently attend OSHC, we would greatly appreciate if you could send through a family photo so that we can build our tree!

Coming up at OSHC: School Holidays!

Can you believe it is school holidays?! #yay

As St James OSHClub does not run a program here, our closest nearby program is located at St Joseph's Primary School. Over the school holiday period, Laura will work alongside the amazing service coordinator, Siobhan to provide an excellent program, jam-packed with lots of super-fun activities that will keep your children engaged and happy these school holidays! We are particularly excited for our Build a Bear Incursion and Disco Day!

Click on the link to view the St Joseph’s Elsternwick OSHClub program and book in via our brand-new website here!

Alternatively, you can access the program planner as attached.

Please note, due to lockdown restrictions, we will only be providing care to essential worker children during the first week of the holidays. We look forward to welcoming families in the second week of holidays, pending an update to restrictions. For further information from the Victorian Government, please see below:

We love feedback!

As part of our commitment to ongoing quality improvement within the program, we are seeking feedback from families and communities!

This week we are focusing on Quality Area 3 of the National Quality Standard: Physical Environment.

What are we working on?

Children understand the effects of human actions upon the environment (NQS 3.2.3).

Question:

How can we promote more sustainable practices within the service? NQS 3.2.3).

We would love your feedback and insight. Please follow the link to provide us with some feedback in this area!
