QGSSSA Cross Country

Our Cross Country schedule has had a few interruptions lately due to the weather, and we are hoping the three session a week schedule comes back online this week and our popular park run sessions recommence.

Next week we will take on the challenge of Kangaroo Point stair climb, weather permitting, so girls, find your running shoes and come along and take up the challenge. A copy of this week’s schedule is below.

Monday         Newstead House Park Run – Bus provided to and from the run venues                           (Girls MUST sign-up on the Croc Board by 1:30 pm on Friday)
Wednesday   At Clayfield College on the oval
Friday             At Kalinga Park – A bus will be provided to drive the girls back to CC

QGSSSA Softball

As a result of the flooding and damage to Downey Park, the Senior Softball Season has concluded early. As such, there is no further training or games. However, the girls will have a BBQ break-up next Thursday afternoon to celebrate a very successful season and to thank our coaching staff. The break-up will run from 3:15 pm – 4:00 pm in the Tennis Pavilion area. Girls are asked to see Softball captain Jacqueline Buchanan if they wish to sign the team cards and contribute to the coaches gift.

QGSSSA Cricket

With only one game played so far this season, the girls are to be commended for their enthusiastic attendance at training and the work they are doing to improve their skills and ability in the game.

Unfortunately, the girls' next two weeks are bye rounds; however, they will attempt to play some of the earlier games that could not be played. Please keep an eye on the College app and daily notices for any updates regarding the rescheduled games.

QGSSSA Gymnastics

This week the coaches ran a mock competition on Wednesday morning to see where the teams were in terms of their preparation.  Our coaching team from Delta was very pleased overall with how the girls are going and will now work on specific areas that need more development prior to the championships.  We have decided to add another mock trial on Monday 28 March, the day prior, as the PE Centre will be set up ready.  This last session will give our girls a run through in the actual competition arena and hopefully a home ground advantage on the day itself.

All girls are asked to ensure their leotard is fitted or purchase a new one (if need be) from the Uniform Shop.  Any further updates and the full training schedule can be found on the College app.

It is a tradition that a group of CC parents run a kiosk at the event. The kiosk is a great opportunity to raise funds for the P&F committee and also feed the girls throughout the day. If you are interested in assisting on the day or in the lead up with getting food and equipment supplies ready, please contact Mr. John Robbins at John.Robbins@bmigroup.com.au to register your interest. Please let John know how you can assist and when.

Autumn Fixtures – Football and Touch

As a result of the recent flooding, Autumn fixtures will have a delayed start to ensure there are sufficient fields ready for the games to be played. Round 1 fixtures that were meant to be played this Friday afternoon have been classified as an abandoned round and therefore, all teams will share the points. Next week's games against St Peter's Lutheran College are set to go ahead. All touch games will be played at St Peter's on Mayer oval; however, the Football games may need to split up with two teams at SPLC and the other two our side of town depending on the restoration of the Toowong Soccer club.

Please keep an eye on the College app and next week's training and fixture schedule for the most up-to-date information.

Volleyball Academy

With the interruptions of last week, the Volleyball Academy will now commence in Week 8; however, the details are still to be finalised. Please keep updated with the College app and daily notices.

Any girls interested in joining the academy, please read the below information and return the application form to Ms. Barnes in Room 1 of the sports office.

Lindsay Webb (Year 8)

Lindsay recently competed at the Premier Gymnastics Club in her first Level 8 gymnastics competition for 2022. There was a multitude of talent as she competed against 36 other Level 8 gymnasts. Lindsay competed fantastically and placed 2nd overall for vault, 5th on beam, 6th for floor and 8th for bars. This competition really tested Lindsay and she had to perform some skills that she had only just mastered.

Well done, Lindsay, we can’t wait to see you perform later this term in the QGSSSA Gymnastics Championship here at the College!

Dannielle Jones (Year 10)

Dannielle Jones
Dannielle Jones

Danni recently competed at Queensland Athletics State Championships in the U16 Discus event. There was a large, highly competitive field of talented athletes, and Danni managed to throw a humungous 36m with a 1kg discus. She was awarded a Bronze medal and met the qualifying distance to compete at a national level. Despite a muscle injury, Danni pushed through to compete in the U16 High Jump division and placed 4th place in a big field of competitors and, as a result, was placed in reserve for nationals.

Danni will be heading off to compete on Monday 28 March, at Sydney Olympic park at the Australian Athletics Championships.

Well done Danni!
