WPS is delighted to again be participating in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular in Mass Dance! Congratulations to the sixteen Year 6 students who will be joining thousands of students from Victorian government schools in Melbourne’s biggest professionally staged production at John Cain Arena on Saturday, September 10. The students will rehearse weekly during lunchtimes and attend four regional hub rehearsals in preparation for the two exciting shows. The team’s first public performance will be on the Stiggants Reserve Stage at this year’s Warrandyte Festival in March!

The theme for this year’s Warrandyte Festival is ‘’. After participating in the street parade, Warrandyte Primary students will take to the Stiggants Reserve stage to share some of their many performing arts talents with the wider Warrandyte Community. Students from Years 1 – 6 will be invited to perform the Australian National Anthem featuring Auslan signing, followed by a hip-hop celebration of dance from our State Schools Spectacular team before our iconic Bush Band gets toes tapping with some much-loved Aussie songs. While attendance is not compulsory, it would be great to see as many students and families as possible joining in this very special community event on Saturday, March 19. Assembly times for both the parade and performances will be posted once they have been provided by the festival organisers. Please remind students to apply sunscreen and bring a water bottle. Fingers crossed for a fabulous festival!

Big congratulations to Cameron Poole and Jasmine Fuja - two past WPS Performing Arts leaders who are following their passion for performing and making a big impression on industry professionals with their talents in singing and dancing! Cameron was recently cast as a lead cast singer in this year’s State Schools Spectacular where he will enjoy singing eight  songs – including feature solo in the Beatles classic “Eleanor Rigby”. This will be a very special experience for both Cameron and our current Spec dance team, as he will perform the song from the centre stage providing vocals for hundreds of mass dancers on the arena floor – a space he knows well from dancing in our WPS Spec teams in 2018 and 2019!

Jasmine has just starred in Dance Street’s production of the musical “Cats”. Jasmine showed she is a true ‘triple threat’ with her convincing portrayal of ‘Demeter’ – a demanding role requiring challenging singing, dancing and acting in almost every musical number in the show.

Jasmine and Cameron were last seen on the WPS stage in the 2019 production of “Beauty and the Beast”- wowing our audience in the roles of Mrs. Potts and The Beast. We look forward to following their future performing arts endeavours and thank them for inspiring our current students with both their talent and their determination to follow their dreams!
