Principal's Report
The end of a wonderful (and very full) semester of learning
What a whirlwind it has been this semester, have you felt it? Suddenly life is back to a 100% full routine and it feels like we have forgotten just how busy we all were pre-pandemic. It has been both exhilarating and tiring having life back in full swing.
Our last newsletter was published quite a while ago and we apologise for the large gap between editions. Our student editors have been busy with NAPLAN and Senior Camp and have not been able to do pull a team of reporters together to get the paper out. To end the semester, they have knuckled down and written the articles in this edition themselves. Next semester they will be working toward a fully student run newsletter. It will be published monthly, with three editions next term.
Just some of the things we have had going on this term -
- School Photos - what a good looking bunch we all are.
- John Monash Science School - A great experience for some of our senior students heading off for some intensive scientific learning over four fortnightly sessions
- NAPLAN - Years 3 and 5 showing us their skill sets and how they compare to others around the nation
- Middle School City Excursion - Learning about our wonderful city
- AFL Clinics - great to see powerful handballs under development
- Interschool Sport - It was terrific hearing such positive feedback about how well our students represented our school. Encouraging and supporting others - Great Respect!
- Senior Camp - Hitting the town, our students spent three days and two nights living life in the CBD.
- Foundation and Junior Excursion to the State Library - Which means every student made a trip into the city this term.
- Twilight School - so many fabulous parents doing us for dinner and class in the evening. School at night is fun!
- Foundation trip to the Zoo - I believe the lions were a ROARING success, but trying to see the giraffes was a bit of a TALL order. (see what I did there).
- AND ... a heap of spectacular learning every day!
Such a wonderful term.
Staffing Changes
We are very pleased to announce that:
- Miss Jessica Kidd will be joining us as our PE teacher from next term. Miss Kidd is well known to our students, having worked with us many times as a CRT. She is already one of the KPS Team. Welcome aboard Jess.
- Mrs Kym Wallace, who was our Art and Indonesian teacher for many years has been appointed to a new role in the central office of the Department of Education. This has been a long time goal for Kym and we congratulation on securing this ongoing position. All the best Kym.
- Mrs Blair Blackburn - whilst technically teaching at another school at the moment, Blair was possibly returning to KPS in 2023. We are thrilled to hear that Blair is expecting a baby (twins in fact) due later this year and so will be taking 2023 to be a mum at home! Congratulations Blair and Dave.
- Miss Jenny Fantin is unwell and will continue her sick leave next term. We have welcomed two new ES this term, Mwaka Derksen and Sarah Engberg have been a fantastic addition to our staff team and have been doing a smashing job providing support to students throughout the school.
- Mrs Karen Black will be taking some well earned Long Service Leave in the first four weeks of next term. We wish you safe travels Karen.
