Music News

Dr Andrew Butt

The final weeks of Term 1 have seen many ensembles preparing for upcoming performances with a particular focus for the College’s Premier Ensembles Concert on March 31. Big Band 1, String Quartet and our small jazz ensemble, The Blue Suits, have already presented some outstanding music for the Headmasters Tours that were held on Monday 7 March 7. This was followed by the Chamber Choir and Big Band 1 performing on Thursday 10 March for the Liturgy and Investiture of Student Leaders. Despite the challenges of COVID-19 it is great to see that music here at the College is continuing to thrive. A reminder to all parents that information regarding all music activities for the year will be given via this page, the College Website and the College App. This is particularly important in the ever-changing environment that we are currently presented with.

Music Camp

Last Friday, March 11 approximately 150 Music Students and Staff departed for Alexandra Park at Alexandra Headlands for a delayed 2022 Music Camp. Members of the College’s Chamber Choir, Performance Choir, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber and Senior String Orchestra, Wind Orchestra 1, Guitar Orchestra 1 and Big Band 1 were all involved in the intensive ensemble rehearsals to hone their skills for the numerous upcoming performances this year. Despite some challenges, including a minor COVID-19 breakout, the camp was a great success. All ensembles produced some fantastic results for so early in the year, as well as enjoying some great social time with activities including a trivia night and tenpin bowling on Saturday night. 2022 looks to be a great year, with a record number of students involved in both instrumental and choral ensembles. Thank you to the boys and staff - Ms Rhiannon Fenn, Ms Megan Harmston, Mrs Catherine Wasserman, Mr Enrico Le Mura, Ms Janelle Lee Long, Mr Joseph Rabjohns, Mr Caleb Colledge, Ms Melanie Stewart, Mr Sean Flynn, Mr Monash Lal, Ms Carmen Hooper, Mr Daniel Byrne, Ms Evalyn Legried, Mr Brodie McAllister, Mr Dominic Machen, Mr Bede Prince and Ms Cassie Whitehead. A special thanks to Dr Jamie Kennedy who generously stepped in to direct our Performance Choir at very late notice. His wealth of experience and expertise was very much appreciated by the boys. The following video gives you a glimpse of what transpired over the 3 days.
