Hello from 2/3 Warthogs!
2/3 Warthogs have had a wonderful start to the year! We have settled back into school, classroom routines and expectations quickly and are enjoying working as a team as we complete our work.
In English, we have been focusing on using the Decodable reader books and online platform to focus on learning the different sounds and blending the sounds together. We have been practising sounding like a storyteller by reading with a partner and learning how to be more fluent. In modelled reading, we have started looking at the concept of character and what a character can be. This started through examining the text 'Flood' by Bruce Whatley and Jackie French. We had built a lot of understanding about floods before the actual floods even happened! In writing, we started the term off by looking at how to write simple and compound sentences and are now working really well using our conjunctions or FANBOYS as we like to call them!
In Maths, we have been using our new resources to help us with our learning and are really enjoying using our write and wipe sleeves. We have been looking at how we can draw and write our learning in a range of different ways to show and explain our working out. We have started our journey looking at using the jump strategy and will be continuing to learn other strategies for addition and subtraction throughout the year.
In Art, we have been learning about famous artists and recreating iconic artworks such as 'The Scream', 'Bridge over a pond of water lillies' and 'Squares with concentric circles'. For Music, we have been working really hard at learning how to play the guitar and are beginning to learn how to play chords.
Overall, it has been a really busy start to the year but we are working really hard and doing a fabulous job!
