Mountain Biking 2022

Growing Giants Tom Stockwell and Connor Hester

From the 14th - 16th February, St Philip’s College students Tom Stockwell and Connor Hester represented the Northern Territory in the 2022 AusCycling National Mountain Bike Championships held in Maydena Bike Park, Tasmania. 

Tom competed in the Cross Country Criterium (XCC) placing 10th in the Under 19’s division, and the Cross-Country Olympic race (XCO) coming away in 14th position in the Under 19’s league. 

Connor participated in the National Down-hill course (DHI) in the Under 19’s competition, unfortunately experiencing a minor crash which affected his time, resulting in him finishing in 48th position. Connor also partook in the Under 19’s Pump track event which gave him great experience and a bit of fun. 

From this National Championship Tom learnt that: 

‘If you want to be the best, you have to fully commit’. 

For Connor the experience gave him the opportunity ‘to grow and was humbled” by the competitors he met. 

It’s a busy time for Tom and Connor with Easter in the Alice happening on 15-18th April (Easter weekend) and the 12-Hour Enduro taking place on the 5th March.
