Top Class Theatre Studies Excursion

As a teacher of VCE Theatre studies, it is important to provide opportunities for students to see live theatre and witness the creativity and originality of emerging actors and theatre makers. On March 16th, a group of our students attended Top Class Theatre Studies at the Malthouse Theatre in the city. This exciting event showcased the talent and hard work of VCE Theatre Studies students who received outstanding grades in their 2022 VCE performance examinations.

The show was a 90-minute program that presented a range of original and scripted dramatic monologues and theatrical designs, including examples of acting, directing, sound, make-up, set, props and costume design. The Chief Assessors also provided tips and advice throughout the program, making it an informative and engaging experience for all involved.

One of the most valuable aspects of the show was the opportunity for our Theatre Studies students to see a range of how existing monologues can be interpreted. This provided them with a deeper understanding of how different directorial choices and acting techniques can affect the meaning and impact of a monologue. Our students were particularly impressed with the live demonstrations of acting, directing, and design, which brought the performances to life and provided them with inspiration for their own works.

The excursion also provided our students with an opportunity to experience live theatre in a professional venue. They caught the train into the city and walked to the Malthouse Theatre, which added to the excitement and anticipation of the day. Our staff in attendance, myself and Jacinta Wilson, were impressed with the behaviour and engagement of our students throughout the production.

Overall, the Top Class Theatre Studies production was a valuable learning experience for our VCE Theatre Studies students. It showcased the creativity and sophistication of young emerging actors and theatre makers, and provided our students with inspiration and ideas for their own work. We look forward to attending similar productions in the future to continue to enrich our students' learning in this exciting subject.

TOP CLASS

Last week VCE Theatre Studies students travelled into The Malthouse Theatre, Melbourne to view performance were of the TOP 2022 Theatre Studies Exam monologues. The Thursday concert included inspirational performances. Our students heard of the performance exam styles, statements and expertise from assessors: all a valuable experience.

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child

Unit 3 Theatre Studies ventured to the Princess Theatre for the Matinee performance of the reimagined Harry Potter and The Cursed Child. As part of their study, students are to analyse and evaluate the script and theatrical performances. A Q&A session was held with the resident director, a few actors and the technical manager. We all found this a valuable presentation and excellent theatrical experience in preparing for the SAC and exam.

Science News

Over the last Term students in Year 9 have been learning about Electricity. They have had the opportunity to look at different types of circuits, used different tools to develop their skills, from simulations to hands on work. The students have created a skill tester from scratch which will also be used in another unit throughout the year. Here are some examples of work students developed.
