UNITE: What a wonderful night was had on Monday the 20th March.
Thank you to all that attended our Open Evening last night, we hope you enjoyed your time visiting our College.
It was fantastic to see so many families exploring Surf Coast Secondary College as a pathway for their child’s high school journey.
We are also immensely proud of our students who volunteered their time to help during the event.
If you have any questions from the Open Evening, please contact us via surf.coast.sc@education.vic.gov.au
UNITE: Our beautiful Torquay & SCSC community took to the Bunyil - Warri Fields last Friday & Saturday (17th - 18th March) to relay together, fighting for one cause, to beat cancer. Four dedicated & passionate Year 10 students coordinated a successful Relay for Life community event to raise money towards cancer research. Our SCSC students conjured up the idea last year as part of their School for Student leadership program, with the aim to give back to their community.
"The reason we chose to run a Relay for Life is because as a community, it is a great opportunity to start the New Year with positive energy. Not only that, the past couple of years have been a lot for everyone. To honour our loved ones and friends who have sadly passed from, or survived cancer, could really bring together the surf community."
~ Nash C, Riley C
A shout out to Willum and Finlay (Year 9) for achieving a 50km record (each) and to Iona (Year 7) for completing her 21km goal! Huge efforts!
At the start of the year, students aimed to raise $3000, instead their determination and hard work raised a whopping $16,000 (and counting) towards cancer research. Nash Cox, Lily Jarman, Shinay Grobler & Riley Cotter are to thank for a tremendous effort.
Thank you to all who donated, participated, and contributed towards the event.

STRIVE: During their cohort assembly on Monday, a group of hardworking Year 12 students were presented with awards acknowledging their effort and dedication toward their subject studies and structured workplace learning.
FLOURISH: Our awesome Vocational Major students have been helping to plant the school garden bed with autumn veggies, which is part of an ongoing project in which the students will maintain the garden each week.
Our students have planted broccoli, cauliflower, Asian greens e.g. bok choy and pak choy, cabbage and Tuscan kale. They also revived the existing tomato plants by pulling off the diseased leaves and staking the plants so they could grow up further. This was followed up later in the week with some soil care with eggshells for calcium and compost to nourish the soil.
RESPECT: On Friday the 10th March, our College Captains presented to young aspiring leaders from primary schools across the Geelong and Surf Coast region at the Victorian Academy for Teaching and Leadership. The captains spoke about the importance of being leaders in the community, the challenges faced by leaders and advice on how to overcome challenges and be a leader in small, everyday actions.
The captains were flooded with questions after their presentation and enjoyed sharing their experience and wisdom with the next generation of young leaders.
STRIVE: Surf Coast was awarded first place after the hard work of our students in a Science competition run by Education Perfect! We were very excited to learn that we had won $1000 to spend as we wished on equipment that would be useful in our school.
The prizes we chose are as follows: two digital microscopes that can record photos and videos of the objects being viewed, two electronic balances that are accurate to 0.01g, two UV blacklight torches, and a robotic arm kit.
We would like to thank Education Perfect and our students for their efforts in the competition.
