Teaching and Learning in 4A
What an amazing term 4A has had! It has been wonderful getting to know each other and settling into the school year with strong connections and expectations. This term 4A has focused on a range of reading strategies, such as main idea and supporting detail, making text to self, text, and world connections, and identifying facts and opinions. We have also established our morning reading routine, with a focus on reading ‘good fit books’. In writing we have explored persuasive text and the importance of our structure when writing our arguments. We used the acronym OREO to help construct our paragraphs (Opinion, Reason, Example and Opinion), and also included persuasive devices such as alliteration, rhetorical questions and facts. 4A had a lot to say about the topic: all children should do chores at home! This term in numeracy we began the year exploring our love for mathematics and established that maths is in everything we do, so therefore, we are all mathematicians!
Netball Clinic
4A was lucky enough to take part in a four week netball clinic this term. Tara from Netball Victoria shared her love and knowledge of the game across four weeks. Each week 4A built on their skills, improving their passing, throwing and shooting, and were able to take part in a competitive game in our final week. We have some very talented netballers amongst us.
David Lassam
In inquiry this term our topic has been ‘How and why do people choose to remember significant events of the past?’ We have researched a range of significant events including, Australia Day, Labour Day, Mabo, major sporting events such as the AFL Grand Final, Harmony Week and ANZAC Day. Last week we had an incursion with David Lassam, Lieutenant Commander, RAN (Ret). David shared his 39 years of experience and knowledge in the Navy as a Medic and Medical Administration Office. David spoke about ANZAC Day and why we commemorate this day rather than celebrate. 4A were very interested in David’s stories and asked some meaningful questions.
