Teaching and Learning in ART

This term in the Art Room LPS students have explored portraits, and how we can create them using many different types of media.

Year 1 and 2: students used collage, rubbing plates and stamping to create a back ground for their transparent self-portraits. Each student traced their own photo and then transferred their images on to a clear surface.

These will be displayed in the senior building next term.

Year 3 and 4: students have explored the plasticine illustration style of Barbara Reid. Using her techniques for colour mixing, each student blended primary colours together to create their own unique skin tone. This was then used to create a plasticine self-portrait.

Year 5 and 6: students began the term exploring the 7 elements of art. Line, Shape, Form, Value, Colour, Texture and Space. Each student demonstrated each element on a piece of a puzzle that shows their understanding of all the elements when completed. Students have also completed an artist profile on the bright and colourful pop artist Romero Britto. He used colour and lines to create happy and loud pieces that have made him the most licensed artist in history. In Term 2 Year 5 and 6 will start off by creating their own Britto inspired self-portraits.

Prep: students have spent the term getting to know the art room. They have practised using glue, markers and how to cut in a straight line using a cutting hand and a turning hand. They have explored the magic of the primary colours and how they can be used to make any colour.  Students ended the term using all these skills to create our own primary colour birds in a nest.

These will be displayed in the Prep building next term for everyone to see.
