SAKG NEWS

As we enter the final fortnight of term we are getting into the Easter spirit, particularly in the kitchen. Students from Grades 3-6 are baking hot cross/fruit buns and vegetable soup, whilst Grade 1&2s are making pizza muffins along with berry and banana smoothies.

In the garden the focus has been around broccoli. Students have been busily planting the broccoli seeds which were harvested from the garden last year. They have also been learning about pest management, particularly butterflies which like to eat our broccoli. Students have been put to work by digging up the last of our summer crops (i.e. corn, tomatoes and zucchini) and fertilising these beds to make space for the autumn and winter crops. We are planning on planting a lot of winter greens including silver beet, kale and spinach.

A big thank you goes to the Grade 6 classes who busily made a range of fruit muffins for the senior house sports last Thursday. These included apple & rhubarb, apple crumble, banana and berry & white chocolate. Garden classes also helped out with decorating, labelling and packaging of these muffins. And lastly we would like to thank the many families who supported the program by purchasing these delicious sweet treats. We hope you enjoyed it!
