Year 9 Art Class

Early in the term the Year 9 Art class had a visit from Artist Sonia Zymantas, to work on an art project for the Knox Festival. Sonia is a multi-disciplinary artist and community arts worker who create projects that question social norms.

Scoresby was one of several schools to take part in creating work for the installation that was displayed during the festival.

In preparation for the workshop with Sonia, students reflected on their interpretation of the concept of ‘dreams’ – aspirations for the future, or images that come to us when we sleep?

They then brainstormed words that could represent their dreams and what the word means to them.  Then working with Sonia, the students created stencils and printed their words onto pillowcases, to be displayed above a cushioned floor at the festival, for the audience to lay back and contemplate the dreams of the youth of Knox.

It was a great experience for the class to work with Sonia and participate in a public exhibition of their art. Thanks to Sonia and Knox Council for the opportunity!
