Last Thursday, November 10th the Kildare String Ensemble paid a visit to KU and St Luke’s Preschools to present an interactive program of children’s songs that can be sung as rounds including, “Are You Sleeping” (Frere Jaques), “English Round” and “Sweetly Sings the Donkey”. The preschool children were introduced to our violins, cello and double bass and were given the opportunity to pluck and bow the strings. The children were also invited to play along with percussion instruments.

The Kildare String Ensemble includes four violinists, Stella Bennett, Zeli Chalthleng, Zara Green and Clare Wollett who picked up the instrument over the course of this year. The Preschool Round Trip was a debut for each of them performing to a live audience on their instrument. We were also ably supported by Edward Hutchinson on the cello who has been a part of the Kildare String Instrument program since 2019.
