Sam Clear

A Worldwide Walk For Christian Unity

In term 4 each year, 10 RE classes begin preparing earnestly for the rigours of senior study. Our final unit, ‘The Church Today’, examines Christian Church history and the theology underpinning the variety of denominations in existence today. Students investigate the contemporary Ecumenical movement and its significant role in challenging historical attitudes of sectarianism in Australia.

On Tuesday 29th November, guest speaker Sam Clear visited Kildare and brought the theme of Christian unity alive. He recounted his travels across 21 countries on his ‘Walk4One’, a quest to begin conversations and visit christian churches in every town he trekked through. His travels brought many great challenges but also life-changing moments of encounter that continue to inspire him to promote Christian unity today.

In the words of one student: Sam’s presentation opened my perspectives, revealing the reason why unity needs to be achieved and the variety of ways it can be achieved. Sam Clear’s speech explored the ideas of Ecumenism but made it engaging and relatable for everyone, as well as identifying world wide problems and the original reason of why God's love is so important. We must all face social justice challenges together as one Christian community for the mission of unity.
