Mr Michael Connolly, Acting Head of Primary School

Getting the Little Things Right

Last week, we focused our attention on raising the bar on our expectations and keeping our standards high in the Primary School as we work towards the end of the school year.

This week, I will be asking the boys to pay attention to the little things and make every effort to ‘get the little things right’ during their days here in the last three weeks of term. I am a firm believer in the notion that the little things matter and, regardless of what topic or area we are turning our attention to, the little things, that are often seen as the very basic things, matter.

Mobile Phone Use

Our boys are not permitted to use their mobile phones for any purpose during the day here in the Primary School. They have been asked to turn them off and secure them in their bags from the time they arrive until they are dismissed after school.

If a boy needs to send or receive information urgently during the day, Mrs Maddox in the Primary Office will assist him with this.

Mr Newman made it very clear on assembly last week that no boy should be filming another student without their written permission, and, definitely not whilst in school uniform.

Your assistance in maintaining this policy for our boys is greatly appreciated.

Primary Mass

We will be attending Mass at 8:00am on Wednesday this week. All boys are asked to be at school by 7:45am so that we can make our way down to the Chapel and be seated for an 8:00am start to our celebration.

End of Term Assembly

Year 6 families should have received an invite to attend our end of year Assembly on the last day of term. This assembly is a special assembly dedicated to farewell our Year 6 boys and their families as they embark on the second stage of their Marist journey, the secondary years. Please ensure to book your seats for this event as there is limited space for our Year 6 boys, staff, and families in the Draney Theatre.

Year 6 Beach Trip

If you are yet to grant permission for your son to attend the celebration day at Caloundra on November 24th, please do so by Friday 11 November, through the Parent Lounge. Also, a reminder that we require at least two helpers from each Year 6 class on the day to assist with supervision at the beach. Please email your son’s class teacher if you are keen to assist. Thanks.

Year 10 Peer Mentoring

Our Year 6 classes will have another session with our Year 10 Peer Mentors on Tuesday. These sessions are designed to assist the Primary boys in their transition from Year 6 to Year 7 and have been well received by our boys.

Primary Pastoral Leader by Kylie Tippins

Tomorrow we have our final Primary Mass for 2022. It is important, that as part of Marist College, our students participate in the religious life of the school. As such, can you please ensure that your son is at school by 7:45 am to attend this special liturgy.

Over the past week, I have spoken to several boys about their actions and how they can learn to make better choices, so they can become the best version of “them” they can be. A simple strategy we have discussed is the Stop, Think, Act strategy. By stopping before we engage in an action, thinking about possible consequences, then acting, we can learn to avoid unfavourable situations. If you have a moment, please talk to your son about this.
