Junior School Music Ensemble Programs 2022

As our first year of Junior School Music draws to a close, we are planning for our Junior Music Programs for 2022. Our Music Program is always evolving to meet the changing landscape of music production and trends worldwide, the evolving and fluid learning styles of our students, and more recently, the influx of Junior School musicians, transitioning between years, stages, and through our Ensemble Program into some of our College-wide Ensembles. Here is an outline of some of our new programs for our 2022  Junior School students, complete with enrolment details:

Year 6 2022: Middle School Band Program

Students who have enjoyed playing their instruments in the Year 5 Band Program in 2021, have the opportunity to continue with their instruments through our Middle School Band Program in 2022. Our Middle School Band Program is for students in years 4 - 8 who have been playing their instrument for 1 - 3 years, and are playing at a beginner to intermediate level.

Year 6 students in the Middle School Band Program receive:

  • 1 x small group lesson per week - held with other Year 6 students and a specialist instrumental tutor (lessons available during class time or out of school hours, depending on student/teacher availability)
  • 1 x Middle School Band rehearsal per week - held on Tuesdays from 8.00am - 8.50am
  • For a subsidised tuition rate of $190 per term
  • With instrument hire available for $60 per term, (students can provide their own instrument)
  • The opportunity to participate in a Sydney excursion to perform at the IPSHA Performing Arts Festival 2022 and the Australian Schools Band and Orchestra Festival (excursion fees apply)
  • The option to take extra individual tuition for standard tuition rates if desired

Year 4 2022: String Sinfonia Program

Students who have enjoyed playing their instruments in the Year 3 String Program in 2021, have the opportunity to continue with their instruments through our Super String Sinfonia Program in 2022. Our String Sinfonia Program is for students in years 4 - 8 who have been playing their instrument for 1 - 3 years, and are playing at a beginner to intermediate level.

Year 4 students in the String Sinfonia Program receive:

  • 1 x small group lesson per week - held with other Year 4 students and a specialist instrumental tutor (lessons available during class time or out of school hours, depending on student/teacher availability)
  • 1 x String Sinfonia rehearsal per week - held on Thursdays from 3.10pm - 4.00pm
  • For a subsidised tuition rate of $190 per term
  • With instrument hire available for $60 per term, (students can provide their own instrument)
  • The opportunity to participate in a Sydney excursion to perform at the IPSHA Performing Arts Festival 2022 and the Australian Schools Band and Orchestra Festival (excursion fees apply)
  • The option to take extra individual tuition for standard tuition rates if desired

Junior School Choir Program

We launch our Junior School Choir Program in 2022. This program is for students in Years 3 - 6 who love to sing and would like the opportunity to learn more about how to sing in a group with others. 

Students in the Junior School Choir Program receive

  • 1 x choir rehearsal per week - held on Mondays from 3.10 - 4.10 with a trained singer and choral accompanist
  • Training in pitch audiation, sol fa, articulation and enunciation, breath control, vocal technique, harmonisation.
  • Lyric sheets and training recordings
  • The option to take extra individual tuition for standard tuition rates if desired (only available for Year 5 and 6 students, on approval from our vocal teacher)
  • For a choral tuition fee of $220 per term
  • The opportunity to participate in a Sydney excursion to perform at the IPSHA Performing Arts Festival 2022 and to Canberra for the Australian National Eisteddfod (excursion fees apply)

Students in Year 3

All students in Year 3 will participate in the Year 3 Strings Program in 2022. We encourage our Year 2 2021 students to listen to violins, violas, cellos and double basses in the holidays to get your ears ready! Be ready for instrument try-outs in February!

Students in Year 5

All students in Year 5 will participate in the Year 5 Band Program in 2022. We encourage our Year 4 2021 students to listen to flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones and euphoniums in the holidays. What kind of sounds do you like? Are you a high/low/loud/soft person? Be ready for instrument try-outs in February!

All Junior School Students - Private Tuition

All Junior School students can choose to enrol in private music tuition with our team of music specialists at the Music Academy. Available instruments, minimum ages, cognitive benefits and eligibility guidelines are as follows:
