CAS Project – Going to school around the world

The CAS project is an essential element of the IB Diploma Programme core. This project enables students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development by learning through experience. It provides opportunities for collaboration, development of self-management skills and fosters a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment from shared achievement.

Our Year 11 IB students thoroughly enjoyed the action phase of their CAS Project – Going to school around the world. Each group of IB students planned and delivered an engaging workshop to our Stage 1 students to learn about school around the world. COVID-19 restrictions added an extra challenge as the lessons were delivered online.

Each lesson aimed to develop international-mindedness through understanding the experiences of children from Nigeria, India, Italy and Japan. The Junior School students watched a short video prepared by each group to inform and stimulate discussion. They then engaged in language development activities through song, dance and play, and concluded with creative origami and colouring activities. The Junior School students were so engaged and fun to work with, with students demonstrating empathy, understanding and care for others - the IB Learner Profile in action! The clear learning intentions, considered content and engaging age appropriate activities delivered by our IB students were a hit, and we were so incredibly proud of their efforts. The smiles evident from both our junior and senior students and of the teachers on the day said it all!

A sincere thank you to Mrs Lister for her work in preparing the students so effectively and delivering such a rich CAS experience for our students, and to Mrs Wickson, Ms MacDiarmid, Mrs McAleer and Miss Tilyard for their positive encouragement and participation in this project.
