School Council

School Council update

School Council met on Tuesday night, for the first time in what seems like ages, in person. Sitting outside at Sprout face-to-face was an absolute treat, for many of us it was the first evening outing without our families in four or so months so in amongst the serious discussions there was an atmosphere of delight that we were back in each other's company.

Governance considerations

Governance items on the agenda were:

  • August and September Financial reports
  • 2022 budget preparations considerations
  • 2022 calendar preparations
  • Review and workshopping the Standing orders which outline the processes and procedures School Council plus all School Council Sub-Committees and working groups must adhere to. Once they have been updated they will be presented for adoption at the December 2nd meeting and then made available to the broader school community.

How can parents get involved in the budget/calendar for 2022?

If you have an idea for an investment or a fundraising event you believe the school should consider please put forward the suggestion to the Sub-committee Chairs or straight into School Council. We will be finalising the budget at the December 2nd School Council meeting.

  • Infrastructure suggestions go to Buildings and Grounds (Paul Broadhurst pbroadhurst@gmail.com_ - e.g grants/proposals for shade sails, resurfacing the basketball court and refurbishing the oval are already being investigated by the committee
  • Education suggestions go to Education Committee (Keir Jasper keir.jasper@education.vic.gov.au) - e.g library resources are part of the current school building project
  • Events or fundraising suggestions go to Community Events Team (Emily Myer and Liz O'Neil cet@brunswicknwps.vic.edu.au) - e.g movie nights, bulb drive,

Suggestions or correspondence for consideration by school council can be sent to tanya.pittard@education.vic.edu.au. Any letters will be added to the agenda for the next scheduled School Council meeting.

Strategic planning

School Council was provided with an update on the tutor program, Naplan results and the Semester 2 School reports considerations.

I'm not wishing to steal Hannah and Keir's thunder, however, the Naplan results are quite exciting. The school is really beginning to see results from the implementation of instructional models for teaching and the wonderful leadership on evidence based practice change from Emma and Kate on Literacy and Jessie and Alice on Maths. It will be wonderful to be able to share and discuss the results with the community and to celebrate how well our children have done despite all the challenges they have faced in the past two years.
