A message from the Principal

Ms Fiona Dearn

Dear community of St Monica’s,

I have been fortunate to be able to visit the junior classes over the past week to get to know students and sing a song with them. I visited Camp Kookaburra yesterday to get some time with the seniors and next week I will visit middle classes all in an effort to get to know them and give students a chance to speak with me.

As you can imagine there is a lot of information to absorb at the moment. I attended the Principal induction on Monday where CES policies and frameworks were presented by supporting staff from CES.. There are 22 new Principals in the diocese all who require induction.

I have met with the leadership team to begin an audit of our School Improvement Plan and identify our areas of focus for 2022.

We have registered and submitted our plan for an undercover learning space which would cover the amphitheatre using funding from the government’s shade sail grant.

We have a number of projects being investigated including fencing off the oval, setting up the kitchen garden, renewing our maintenance contracts, placing a coded lock for entry to aftercare, new nets for the basketball rings and playground maintenance.

Teachers in the meantime have been finalising assessments in preparation for reports, placing students in classes based on student friend choices and preparing for the wonderful season of Advent.

Advent is a time of preparation for the birth of Jesus and as we all know the anticipation for an exciting event can enhance the event and make it even more exciting. There are many ways to prepare and as I am working on the preparation for the new year of 2022, as a community we will be focusing on the joy and anticipation of Christmas.

One way we can prepare for Christmas is by gathering to sing carols. We are very pleased that we will be able to go ahead with carols and gather as a community. Keep the date free Thursday 9th December 6pm.

I hope that you enjoy the first edition of our digital newsletter. Please view all pages especially 'What's happening at St Monica's' to see photos. We hope to develop the inewsletter to provide you with up to date information at your fingertips including dates and all news across our community. Feedback is welcome.

Warm Regards,

Ms Fiona Dearn
